Anthropologie approached me about doing a collaboration and exhibition at their Rockefeller Center flagship. After visiting their HQ and seeing all the amazing things possible, we landed on doing a series of rugs. They said they could do anything, and asked me to challenge them. So I did, and we created a series of 12 one of a kind ‘collage’ rugs- each rug comprised of different styles and textures, in unique shapes- more wall hangings than rugs. They had to go to 4-7 different artisans to create all the pieces and took over 6 months to make. But the next piece was next level- the Rickshaw. They had a rickshaw at the HQ and told me they custom made it. Of course I had to make one. Called the Rick James, it featured a giant working pinwheel and a mirror ball inspired bees nest as a roof, which was lined with rug scraps. It took a year to make and sold to someone for $10,000. I loved this project SO MUCH.
